INTRODUCING ‘ The Breaking Pattern’ , THE ARIZONA FOUR PIECE  TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS YEAR! DEREK AND I CHATTED ALL THINGS THEIR NEW MUSIC!

What are your names?
Derek (singer), Brandon (drums), Jacob (bass), Nick (guitar). I (Derek) will be doing the interview today!
What is the Bands name?

The Breaking Pattern

How old are you?

We’re all in our young 20’s. We just threw a big party for Brandon’s 21stthe other weekend! Filmed the shenanigans on snapchat. Red velvet and funfetti cake.

What is your genre of music?
We’ve been classified a couple different things: emo-revival, alt indie rock, atmospheric pop rock. Your new favorite band.

How did you come up with the band name?
It was a phrase I heard one of my poetry teachers say a few times over. I loved all the connotations and meaning. When it came time to force it down everyone’s throats there weren’t really any dissents… even all the fans were about it.

How did you all meet?
We all played in various other local bands prior to forming TBP. We had played with each other’s bands. Essentially all the more serious members of the bands came together to form TBP.

Give us a little bio about you as individuals and as a band.
I was indoctrinated into the cult of local scene music at the ripe age of 15. Fell in love with obscure bands (some went on to be not so obscure). Brandon played drums in local bands since he was 14 and has been destroying surfaces with sticks ever since. Idk how Nick and Jacob started playing music. Both are phenomenal musicians who have been in and out of various projects, they wanted to find more “professional” musicians to work with and we teamed up!

How long have you been doing music?
When I was three I would bang on my moms piano but she wasn’t fond of it. I took up clarinet in middle school and was first chair but was ridiculed after a year and forced to quit. I touched the guitar at age 12 and never stopped playing. Never had a teacher though, so I always just kind of wrote my own songs…

What made you go in to music?
Crippling social anxiety and the overwhelming teenage desire to fit in. Lol in all honesty though, I always loved music and when I started playing my sisters guitar at age 12 I just sort of got hooked. My family went through a series of moves and I didn’t know anyone or have any other major hobbies, so I just played from the moment I woke up to the time I fell asleep.

Are you signed?

No.

You have released your album called ‘There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins’ what’s the story behind the title?
There’s a theme of separation as a response to individual discovery that is woven throughout the tracks of the album. The title was intended to reflect that theme with a strong image.

Tell us more a about the tracks Individually?
You know what, it’s kind of strange but kind of cool. Every person we’ve talked to has a different favorite song. We tried to make the album as cohesive as possible yet – and some people still prefer the fast or the low songs – but more so, people connect and identify with specific lyrics. It’d take decades to explain the personalities of each song, but I encourage you to check out our bandcamp to find the lyrics to your favorite tracks!

What’s it like working with ‘Quite Great PR’ ?
They have been fantastic and very accommodating. Definitely hope to cross that big ocean and have some tea with them one day!

How did that comes about?

We talked with several different agencies and management groups. Very few saw things the way we did in terms of marketing our band. We didn’t want someone who could possibly misrepresent us, so we were quite relieved to find people whose vision aligned with our own!

Tell us more about any of your new music if you have anymore planned.
We have a video coming out in a month, a tour planned for this Summer, and a b-sides coming out at the end of the year!

Will you be doing any gigs or a Tour?
Yep! We’ll be touring the southwest this summer.
If you are, where are will you be heading?
Headling? Just phoenix. But we’ll be opening for some solid bands… more details on that will be announced shortly.

Do you play any instruments?
Yep, we write everything ourselves.

Who are your influences?
Our biggest influences come from our local music scene!

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Personal experience is the greatest inspiration.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Ideally, on the grammy stage. Realistically, we hope to have a strong international fanbase by that point!

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I’m a fairly active spoken word poet, so lots of writing. We hope to be releasing more poetry videos this summer too!

If you could collaborate with one UK Artist who would it be?
The 1975 is killin it right now. My girlfriend would faint if I worked with Ed Sheeran or Ben Howard.

If you could collaborate with one USA Artist who would it be?
We are currently collaborating with some members of Lydia, honestly I’m excited to see where that leads.

Where is your dream venue or festival to perform in USA?
Selling out the marquee in our hometown. I grew up watching all my favorite bands in that venue, I want to do the same.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
I think the whole Moon and Antarctica album from Modest Mouse really opened my mind to how creative and freeing music can be. I was very young when I first heard that album and that’s when I started branching off into new music at that point.

If you could get one of your songs on a TV show, which would it be?
Game of Thrones. I want to see Daenerys flying in on a dragon, beheading some baddies while one of our songs is bumpin!

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Be yourself, find your sound, and then stick to it.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“ I must become less”. It’s hard not to get a big head in this industry, we as artists need to combat that and not let all this be just about ourselves.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Haha well besides the obvious… I like to drink immodiom to settle my stomach from nerves, a giant bottle of warm water, vocal warm ups to the app on my phone, extra everything, the merch bin (always forget the merch bin).

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes! We’re most active on Instagram at TheBreakingPattern. We also have a twitter and snapchat at TheBreakPattern.

Thank you again for your time, hope to hear from you on twitter!
