HERTFORDSHIRE ARTIST ELLIE JANE CHATS MAKING HER DREAMS COME TRUE AND NEW EP’CLOCKS’

What is your name?

 Ellie Jane

What is your genre of music?  Singer songwriter

Give us a little bio about you.

I grew up in a little council estate in Ware Hertfordshire and am 20 years old. I’ve been singing professionally for about 6 years now but have always sang for as long as I can remember. I have been involved with a few collaborations that managed to get airplay on Radio 1, and managed to get to the final of Open Mic UK.

Are you a signed?

No

You are set to release EP , ‘Clocks’, can you tell us more about that?

It was released on the 21st October and recorded in Gloucestershire. All the tracks are based on real life events that have happened to me and so it’s very personal to me as I am completely opening up to anyone who wants to listen.

Describe each track using three words

 Clocks – relatable, honest, powerful

Lights Go Down – strong, encouraging, brave

Can’t Keep Up with You – funky, fun, modern

Beautiful Downfall – liberating, emotional, happy

Who Are You, impacting, pretty, big

Fickle – vulnerable, painful, vengeful.

Will we see any gigs or maybe even a tour with this EP ‘Clocks’?

I’ve got a few local gigs planned around Hertfordshire way I’ll be advertising for those on social media (@elliejanemusic) and am hopefully going to be putting a spanner in the works for a mini tour early 2017.

You performed at Open Mic UK and got to the final how was that?

To be honest it was intimidating and there were times where I didn’t feel good enough. It was a good gain of experience of performing for me.

Where is your dream venue to play in the UK?

 02 Arena

Where is your dream venue to play anywhere overseas?

The Superbowl in the US. If you get asked to do that you know you’re successful.

Do you have any collaboration with any other artists in the planning?

I plan to write with as many different artists as possible as that is the way you grow as a musician.

What made you go in to music?

There wasn’t exactly a trigger I have just always sang since I was old enough to play with Barbies and things so it’s just always been it for me and it’s the only thing I have patience go stick at.

Do you play any instruments?

I taught myself really basically to play piano and guitar to have an accompaniment to write to but I’m not massively confident.

Who are your influences?

Florence and The Machine, Amy Winehouse, James Bay, Kendrick Lamar and other hip hop influences.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

All of my songs are based on real life events. I use hip hop as a massive inspiration because their wordplay and their flows are incredible and actually mean something. It makes me want to write important and expressive lyrics rather than just words to fill 3 minutes.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

At the moment, I’d like to have done 2 or 3 tours throughout the UK and overseas, have an album or 3 under my belt and be able to call music my full time job.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I do uni work! I’m in my final year of uni studying multimedia journalism so my schedule is pretty hectic.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

As I said there wasn’t really a trigger it was just something that I’ve always done. Albums like Usher ,Confessions inspired me to write more mature and adventurous lyrics.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

JK Rowling got rejected something like 50 times before someone agreed to publish her, now pretty much every single person in the entire world knows about Harry Potter even if they haven’t seen it. don’t give up.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

It’s easy to let things consume you and distract you in this business, but when something is stopping your love for writing or putting you off, that something isn’t okay and the love of what you do should always come first. Social media is the answer to everything.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

Keep going and just get things done.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

 Warm up routine.

Vocal pastels

Food

Equipment/instruments

Water

You work with Lime Jam PR, how did that come about?

To be honest I can’t remember exactly it sort of just happened. I think it was through mutual friends and a friend of my mum’s passed her details to Ellis and Julia at Lime Jam. We had a conversation about how we could work together and cracked on!

You are away from home on tour for ages and you get back, where is your go to place in your hometown?

To wherever my dog is at that time, probably my mum’s house.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
